5 Types Of Jumps That Will Help You Reach Your Highest Vertical Potential

The truth can be harsh, and the truth is we all have our own limitation. No amount of work will get you jumping like Michael Jordan. Some people are just born more capable than others. But, with hard work you can achieve your highest vertical potential. There are a series of jumps and exercises that can help you add the most inches to your vertical jump possible.

The goal of the first jumping exercise is to rapidly leap off of your ankles. Start by standing on the balls of your feet, lifting your toes as high as possible and keeping your heels off the ground. Leap strait up without using your toes. Do your best not to bend your knees while jumping or landing. As soon as your feet touch the ground leap back up quickly. The goal is to spend as little time on the ground as possible.

The next jumping exercise requires a box that is about the height of your current vertical leap. This exercise is all about landing after stepping off the box. Your heels should not touch the ground and you should land securely; think gymnast dismount. There are two ways to approach the landing, one aims for as little bend in the knees as possible and the other ends in a deep squat position. The height of the box should increase till your landing starts becoming less stable.

Vertical jumps are the third type of jumping exercise. For this one you will need some kind of stable, adjustable box. Your aim is to jump up onto it at the highest you are capable, and then jump off and back on repeatedly as quickly as possible.

Step stool jumps are very comparable to vertical jumps, except you will need four or five step stools or other stable surfaces of varying height. Again, the goal is to jump on and off as quickly as possible, but this time starting with the smallest and working your way up in height after each dismount.

The final jumping exercise that will help you reach your goal for the highest vertical potential mixes vertical jumps and the second jump exercise listed here. You will need the box that matchers your current highest vertical leap. Step off but instead of trying to stick the landing when you hit the ground, leap strait up as high as you possibly can. This exercise is all about embracing contact, using it to propel yourself upwards, and doing so quickly, and without he most height possible.
